Empowering women from developing countries have been ranked 2nd out of 76solutions for controlling global warming. According to Project Drawdrown organization they report that girl's education and family planning would reduce carbon by 85 gigatons by 2050. In 2015, is when gender equality in health and education was added to the list of sustainable development goals.
Having access to education, family planning, and birth control, allows women to have the ability to have as many children as they want and when they have them. Statistics show that since women have this access, they tend to wait longer to have children and have less. It relieves stress on ecosystems and allowing resources to recover without causing problems with the local food access.
The report also says that the efforts aren't to push population control its about women's freedom of choice.
